Does Laser Tattoo Removal Really Work?

Tattoos used to be considered permanent, with colour pigments being unable to be removed from the skin, however, utilising the latest in laser tattoo removal technology our aesthetic practitioners are capable of removing almost all colours of ink from all skin types.

Tattoo Removal Cheshire

Assisting people throughout Cheshire to remove unwanted tattoos from their skin, we aim to ensure the utmost comfort for every client through our doors. Utilising a specialist skin cooling wand as part of the Quanta Chrome system, our practitioners can effectively reduce pain within the treated area.

With a precise laser being applied to the tattooed area of the skin, the top layer of skin is penetrated and once absorbed by the tattoo ink, the pigment is broken down into small pieces, showing prominent results immediately with more fading occurring over time as ink particles are carried out of the body by the natural immune system.

With the tattoo ink being injected through several layers of skin to obtain permanence, multiple sessions of laser tattoo removal treatment will be required to remove your tattoo completely. Once the results from the initial treatment have been examined, your practitioner will recommend booking another appointment depending on the fading of the artwork.

Our Step By Step Guide To Tattoo Removal Treatments

Step 1:
Consultation

As with every treatment at Harley Skin & Laser Clinic, we always aim to prioritise client safety and therefore every possible situation and outcome is taken into consideration through our specialised consultation. Talking with one of our experienced aesthetic practitioners, the size and colour of your tattoo will be taken into account as you discuss the expected outcomes for your laser tattoo removal treatment whether you want to completely remove the tattoo or fade it back for rework.

Step 2:
During Your Treatment

Our laser tattoo removal treatment is carried out with the use of a specialised Cryo skin cooler device, this allows the skin to be actively cooled throughout the treatment, effectively reducing pain.

Allowing the light produced by the laser to pass through the skin, the Quanta Chrome targets the ink and pigments within your skin breaking them down into particle fragments that are easily processed by your immune system.

The Laser is passed over your tattoo only once and depending on the size of your tattoo treatment time is usually around 5 – 20 minutes and can take between 5-15 sessions.

Step 3:
After The Treatment

At Harley Skin & Laser Clinic, we see aftercare as part of the laser tattoo removal process this is why our experts have developed Harley Soothe, a gentle and soothing balm to help calm any irritation you may feel after your treatment.

You may find your skin is red with a raised appearance or maybe even slightly bleeding for a short while after your laser tattoo removal treatment, the healing process for this can be helped by holding a cool pack to your skin and avoiding direct sun exposure.

If any further advice is required after your treatment is complete, our experienced practitioners at Harley Skin and Laser Clinic will offer any assistance they can to ease your recovery.

Does Laser Tattoo Removal Have Side Effects?

Incorporating the latest advancements in Quanta Chrome laser tattoo removal technology at Harley Skin & Laser Clinic, our Cheshire tattoo removal clients very rarely see any side effects once their treatment is complete.

However, due to the nature of the treatment some side effects can occur:

Skin Blistering and Scabbing

As signs that the tattoo removal is working effectively, superficial blistering and scabbing may occur from the heating of blood vessels around the tattoo. Potentially appearing up to 72 hours after the treatment, these side effects will disappear within two weeks of your laser tattoo removal treatment.

Tattoo Removal Frosting

Caused by carbon dioxide being released as a result of the laser penetrating the skin, during the laser tattoo removal treatment, your skin will naturally turn a frosty white colour. This will usually subside after twenty minutes of the treatment being complete.

Tattoo Removal Pain

Due to the laser penetrating the skin, the tattoo removal treatment is not pain-free but tolerable for most with clients often comparing it to having an elastic band snapped on your skin.

How To Care For Your Skin After Tattoo Removal

Similarly to when you had the tattoo done whether it be in Cheshire or anywhere around the world, there are several aftercare steps you can take to ensure the recovery process is as smooth as possible.

Keep the skin clean by washing the treated area with water, ensuring you dry the skin carefully and completely afterwards. To soothe and hydrate the skin after your laser tattoo removal, apply aloe vera and don’t cover or pick the treated area. Learn more about the tattoo removal process and aftercare here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Immediately after treatment, your tattoo will turn white and appear lighter on the skin. This is temporary and is due to the release of carbon dioxide from your skin and is a sign that your skin absorbed the lasers well. Your tattoo will look back to how it was within a few hours. Do not be disheartened the ink has been shattered and your body is now doing the hard work!
You may notice some heat, redness or swelling around the area where the tattoo has been shattered. Bruising, blistering and scabbing of the skin is all normal but not everyone has this reaction.
Tattoo removal is not a pain-free treatment, and is often commonly compared to having an elastic band snapped against your skin. This pain is fortunately made more tolerable through the use of the cooling wand that eases the temperature of the laser on the skin.
Depending on the area the tattoo is located and the amount of hair growth, you may have to shave the area prior to your appointment. If you are unsure whether you will need to shave, you can ask your aesthetic practitioner during your consultation and they will advise.
A tattoo can be faded adequately to be covered after a couple of sessions. Your practitioner will be able to advise how many sessions you are likely to need during your consultation.
