Often appearing as small dark brown spots on the skin, moles are very common with most adults having between 10 and 40 moles on their body.

Caused when cells in the skin called melanocytes, that assist in melanin production, grow in clusters forming small patches of skin discoloration. Most people continue to develop new moles until about age 40. In older people, common moles tend to fade away.

What Is An Unhealthy Mole?

When To Get A Mole Screening

As natural as they may be, moles can be indications of serious medical conditions and even cancerous. This is why here at Harley Skin & Laser Clinic, we always advise our clients to have a mole screening and further understand their moles.

From person to person, mole growth and appearance changes, this for some can become a concern as you may not understand if your moles are unhealthy. If you notice your moles begin to: change in size, shape or colour, you have a mole that is painful or itchy, potentially inflamed or bleeding. We recommend informing your GP and having the mole examined medically.

Safe Mole Screening Staffordshire

Melanoma is the fifth most common cancer in the UK and often presents as a new or changing lesion. Mole mapping and screening is such an important tool to our clinic as a way to help our clients recognise indications of skin cancers early.

How Does Mole Screening Work?

Safe Mole Screening In Staffordshire

Aesthetic mole screenings are a safe non-invasive procedure. Using the Dyplens dermoscope from Map My Mole, our aesthetic practitioners are able to capture magnified and illuminated images of your skin for examination.

These high quality, illuminated mole screening images enable external Dermatologists to accurately diagnose the type of mole and to assess the potential threat level.

Mole screening isn’t just for serious cases, however. Many of our clients simply wish to have cosmetic mole removal for clearer skin. Even with common, low risk moles it is important for us to have external advice for even the smallest and simplest skin lesions as often they can look different under a magnifying lens.

Aesthetic Mole Treatment

Effective Mole Removal For Clear Skin
If determined to be harmless, your mole will be classified as benign by external dermatologists. With no reason for concern you are able to leave your mole in-situ, however, if you’d prefer to remove the mole, our aesthetic practitioners are able to perform a mole cryotherapy removal.

Utilising the CryoPen, cryotherapy mole removal involves the use of a high-pressure jet of nitrous oxide – N2O which is directed at the mole.

Our team of aestheticians will simply point the CryoPen applicator tip directly at the lesion and then apply the cryotherapy treating the abnormal tissue without damaging your normal tissue or skin.

Our Step By Step Guide To Treatments

Step 1:
Consultation

As with every procedure here at Harley Skin & Laser Clinic, we always aim to prioritise client safety and therefore every possible situation and outcome is taken into consideration through our specialised consultation. Talking with one of our experienced practitioners, they’ll prepare a report for the Consult Dermatologists detailing your medical background, sun exposure history and some key details regarding the mole(s).

Step 2:
Dermatoscope Mole Screening

The practitioner will then clean the area and ensure that you’re comfortable. An image will first be taken of the lesion without the Dermatoscope to show the Consult Dermatologists a brief overview of the surrounding area, providing an idea of scale and whether there are any similar moles in the vicinity. Next a cold gel may be applied, depending on the mole shape and location.

The dermatoscope will then be placed over the mole and the practitioner will take a clear, illuminated and magnified picture to attach to the report. Finally, a video is taken of the mole without the dermatoscope to, again, give an idea of scale and location.

Step 3:
After The Screening

Following your mole screening, you will receive a full report from the external Consult Dermatologists detailing the mole. If they determine that your mole is harmless, you can leave it in situ with the reassurance that it is benign.

If you’d prefer to remove the mole, we can also perform a Cryotherapy removal. Cryotherapy involves the use of a high-pressure jet of nitrous oxide – N2O which is directed at the mole. As one of the leading lesion treatment devices available on the market to cosmetic practitioners, it can treat abnormal tissue without damaging your normal tissue.

Our team of aestheticians will simply point the CryoPen applicator tip directly at the lesion and then apply the cryotherapy. If the Dermatologists think that the mole looks suspicious, they will notify you that further screening tests are required. You will be advised to present their findings to your GP who can then refer you for advanced screening and biopsies through the NHS.
