Skin Needling

Skin Needling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy) is the latest skin renewal treatment to restore the healthy youthful appearance of your skin and reduce scarring with minimal downtime compared with other procedures. Skin Needling can provide excellent results but is much less invasive and does not require the removal of the epidermis (the outer layer of skin). The healing time is therefore significantly shorter and there is no post-treatment skin sensitivity to UV light.

The Boston Medical Group Dermal Roller SR is a convenient multipurpose device used for the treatment of various skin conditions such as acne scarring, fine lines, enlarged pores, hyper-pigmentation or just improving skin radiance, without the expense or downtime of more invasive treatments such as deep peels or surgery. Skin Needling is also one of the few skin therapies suitable for treating all skin types, including darker skin types, and which can be used to treat the fragile skin around the eyes, mouth and on the neck.

How does it work?

The concept of Skin Needling is based on the skin’s natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical damage such as cuts, burns and other abrasions.  Immediately after an injury occurs to the skin our body reuses the damaged collagen and elastin fibres as well as other damaged skin components to produce new ones.  Skin Needling allows for controlled induction of the skin’s self repair mechanism by creating micro-‘injuries’ in the skin which trigger new collagen synthesis, yet does not pose the risk of permanent scarring. The result is smoother, firmer and younger looking skin.

How is the treatment administered?

Skin Needling procedures are performed in a very safe and accurate manner with the use of sterile single-use Boston Medical Group Dermal Roller. The procedure is normally complete within 45 minutes.  Once the skin has been cleansed, the practitioner will gently roll the dermaroller over your skin to puncture the outermost layers of the skin and create miniscule sub-cutaneous injuries. These microscopic wounds stimulate new collagen deposition which may last for up to a year, yet they close within less than an hour.

Who carries out this treatment?

The treatment is administered by Harley Spencer an Aesthetic Practitioner who has been trained by the Boston Medical Group, so she is supremely confident with surgical treatments such as the Dermaroller. You can be assured of the best care from a highly trained professional!

How will I look immediately after the treatment?

After the procedure your skin will be red and flushed in appearance in a similar way as a moderate sunburn. You will also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch.  This will diminish greatly after a few hours following the treatments and within the next 48 hours your skin will be completely healed. After 2 days there is virtually no evidence that the procedure has taken place. The length of downtime and recovery time depends on the micro-needle size used for treatment. You will be informed about your predicted post-treatment appearance during consultation.

How quickly will I see results?

Visible signs of skin rejuvenation are seen after just 6-8 weeks following procedure and continue for up to a year.  A course of 3 at 4 – 6 week intervals is usually recommended to achieve optimum results.  A follow up treatment 6 – 12 months after the last treatment, then one or two treatments yearly.

How should I care for my skin during and after treatment?

Topical application of Boston Medical Group’s serums will lead to a dramatic acceleration of regenerative processes and consolidation of procedure results.

Who loves this treatment?

Angelina Jolie, Madonna and many other Hollywood stars love this treatment as there is no downtime, no scarring, just great results.  It was also seen on Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies show to treat acne scars.
