Campbell de Morgan Spots are also called cherry angioma or hemangioma or blood spots. They are small red spots that tend to occur in people over the age of 40. Campbell de Morgan Spots or blood spots can occur with greater frequency as we get older, sometimes leading people to call them senile angioma. They most normally are present on the trunk of the body, usually no larger than about .25 inches (.64 cm) across. Some are pinprick sized and barely noticeable.
What do they look like?
The bright red or purple color of Campbell de Morgan Spots or blood spots result from tiny capillaries at the skin’s surface clustering together and dilating. They are not harmful, and are considered a benign skin growth. Campbell de Morgan Spots are not painful, but some are prone to bleeding when scratched or bruised. People may want them removed simply because they find their presence annoying or unsightly. From a purely medical perspective they don’t require removal unless they’re prone to bleeding frequently.
Are they Dangerous?
They are not dangerous, they are purely a cosmetic problem. Removing these unsightly blemishes is safe and leaves no remaining trace.
What Treatment is needed to Remove Blood Spots?
To remove a blood spot from your body, we use the latest Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology. Before the treatment can take place, a consultation and patch test is needed. The treatment will effectively remove the blood spots by coagulating the blood in the tiny vessels. The vessel then collapses and disappears. The treatment itself is a little uncomfortable but easily tolerated. There are minimal after effects, with a little heat and swelling in the surrounding area. Each treatment lasts 15 minutes.
What Results are expected?
Blood Spots can be successfully removed, leaving a clearer, healthier looking skin. This treatment is suitable for men and woman on the face and on other body areas. Laser or IPL can be used to remove them. The light energy from the laser or IPL is absorbed by the red pigment in the spot which gets very hot, destroying the blood vessels within it. Usually only 1 treatment is needed.
